Meet Wojo, the English Mastiff.
Wojo is 190 pounds and you know what? He has more growing to do. He’s still a puppy!
Back a long time ago, I used to babysit Wojo’s human. When we set-up the session, I heard that they still have a drawing I created back when I babysat. I had no idea what they were referring to… well…
…I think I better stick to photography. No judgment, please.
Lastly, an outtake. My assistant (who also happens to be my husband) graciously accepted a kiss from Wojo. Good boy!!
I had the pleasure of spending a recent winter morning with the lovely Katerina at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. The Walker was a great place to indulge my love of negative space, geometry, and architecture. When I learned Katerina studied ballet and was planning on bringing her pointe shoes, I couldn’t wait to see her in action! She didn’t disappoint and I am in LOVE with the ballet images from her session.
Oh, did I mention Katerina is stunning? I think she looks like a young Julianne Moore with her beautiful red hair.

How can Minnesota be so cruel? 50 degrees last week followed by a snow storm? Oh well–we decided to make the most of it. We went for a nice long walk in the snow and did some ball-playing in the yard (Ajax’s second favorite thing to do, after squirrel stalking). We are spending the rest of the day drinking cocoa, snuggling under blankets, and watching the snow from the inside.
I will never tire of taking pictures of Ajax or any other dog playing fetch. Have you ever seen such genuine expressions of determination, focus, and joy? Especially mid-air.
I recently went to the home of an extremely dedicated volunteer for Homeward Bound Rescue, a foster-based rescue. I had an amazing time photographing some of her foster dogs (including many ridiculously cute puppies), but also made some time to photograph some of her dogs, as well, as they had such engaging personalities and looks! We had a blast playing in the backyard after we were finished with puppy time.
First up is Fletcher. He was adopted over 7 years ago and is an Australian Shepherd. He LOVED the camera and was pleased to smile big for me.
Have I mentioned how much I love shooting in snow? It provides such a nice, clean background! Only downside: frozen fingers.
2 year old Kaia, a Siberian Husky. Such striking eyes!
Ms. Bella, a Lab x Golden Retriever mix. We played, then she showed me some of her many facial expressions.
This is Kuna, a 4-5 year old Malamute. He’s been fostered through Homeward Bound since May of 2010 and is looking for his forever home. Please check him out if you love big dogs–he is a sweetheart!
And finally, this is Wynn. She received the second most votes in my photography session giveaway, so I was beyond pleased to be able to meet and take photos of her. Wynn and her sisters were abandoned by an irresponsible breeder and rescued by her now-owner. She is deaf and has a vision impairment, but is very smart, sweet, and happy (and a complete old soul). I typically use sound a lot to engage dogs when photographing, but instead relied on some really yummy smelling treats and hand signals to entice Wynn. She truly is an amazing little pup (and obviously incredibly loved!).
