I was on the way out of the house yesterday to head to the studio when I saw a cat sitting in my neighbor’s driveway. He is a beautiful gray cat with striking yellow-green eyes and I wanted to chat with him. “Here, kitty kitty!” I said to him. I was able to lure him across the driveway to my front step and we visited–I stroked his soft coat and he seemed to enjoy it, based upon his weaving back-and-forth at my feet. I ran inside to get my camera so I could capture his beautiful eyes.
I proceeded to meow and make kissy noises at him to get his eye contact and tried to move him where I wanted without touching him (I avoid picking up most cats because touching a cat’s belly seems to always lead to the claws coming out). It wasn’t until that point that I realized the neighbor was in his garage working on his car and likely listening to all the ridiculous noises I was making.
“Hi. You have a friendly cat,” I said to him.
“Too friendly,” he muttered as he went back into the garage.
I didn’t mind. 🙂
Ajax was in the yard and saw the whole encounter. He sat for most of it, smiling, but when the cat got close he got REALLY excited. He jumped back-and-forth and let out a howl, which led to hissing on the cat’s part (which led to lots of barking from Ajax). It was amusing.
And just like that, he was done with me and back in his own yard. Bye, kitty kitty!
