This is part 2 of the 4 part blog series on Ruff Start Rescue founder and director Azure Davis. I recently visited her home out in the country to photograph her “children” and had an amazing time. Part 1 with Emma the Pitbull girl can be seen here.
Next up is Ole, Azure’s family’s dog they got when she was 12-years-old. He looks like a super Lab, but actually is a Rottweiler x Golden Retriever they got from a neighbor as a puppy, 12 years ago. He has a beautiful, shiny coat and the happiest smile.
In the spring of 2010, Ole was diagnosed with cancer and they were told he likely wouldn’t make it past that Christmas. I am happy to say that Ole seemed in great health and spirits. Azure isn’t sure how long he has left with her, which was the main motivator for her to have a session. He has some difficulty in moving around and has some lumps, but Ole hammed it up for the camera and we had a great time. 🙂
When we were in the field, Emma the Pitbull was playing fetch, Taz the Bulldog was watching, and Ole was doing his thing… which is digging. Well, not digging. Rather, eating away at the earth. He was very intent on his task and toiled away at grasping huge mouthfuls of dirt and weeds and dumping them to the side — I have never seen anything like it!
Muddy gums!
Ole had a nice long drink to wash his mouth out, then we headed into the pine trees.
Since Ole is Azure’s family’s dog, her younger sister wanted a quick picture with him. I love this sweet, tender moment between them.
Even though it was my first time meeting him, I could clearly tell Ole has lived a long, happy life filled with unforgettable memories and lots of love.
Next up: Taz the Olde English Bulldogge.
