Secondhand Hounds 2013 Calendar | Minneapolis Pet Photographer

I was so excited when local rescue Secondhand Hounds asked me if I would photograph their 2013 calendar.  We brainstormed back and forth on different ideas and themes… in the back of my mind I thought, “Wouldn’t it be neat to photograph each month in a different spot around Minneapolis-St. Paul?”  I hesitated, thinking it would be *really* tricky, if not impossible for a number of reasons.  The idea kept nagging me, so I suggested it, and we immediately decided on it.  It was a lot of time, love, treats, and puppy kisses, but I think it was definitely worth it!  I am beyond excited to see the final product, which was expertly designed by amazing local designer Maker of Rad.

If you love animals, need to get some holiday shopping done, and want to support a local rescue, go to this website to get your order in! Here are a few sneak peeks compliments of Maker of Rad and some bonus images – all 12 dogs (and 1 cat!) were so great to photograph!

American Animal Rescue Project | Minneapolis Pet Photographer

As I mentioned a couple days ago, I recently had the pleasure of participating in the American Animal Rescue Project, a nationwide effort to pair professional photographers and animal rescues to increase adoption rates by creating uplifting images of available animals.  I am very passionate about using photography to help animals in need, so it was a great day meeting so many adorable, smiling, and sometimes slobbery faces.  I teamed up with the wonderfully talented Jessica from Chocolate Moose Images to photograph nearly 40 dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens from 2 local rescues – Ruff Start Rescue and Secondhand Hounds.  Jess was kind enough to puppy wrangle for me when needed (thanks, Jess!) and is an expert kitten whisperer – be sure to check out her amazingly adorable images from the day here.  It’s obvious these rescues and their army of volunteers are doing a fabulous job caring for these animals and preparing them to get adopted into wonderful homes.  Please check out all these available animals and and many more on their websites!

Here are just a handful of my favorite images from the day –

Bella – so sweet with velvety lips:

Melvin – the happy-go-luckiest little pooch: (he has since been adopted – yay!)

Two young’uns – Tina and Dodger:

Oke, with the million dollar smile:

Ok, this last group is admittedly a little over the top!  Their momma, Katrina the hound dog, was rescued from a high-kill shelter late in her pregnancy.  She gave birth to five beautiful puppies in her foster mom’s home (I watched via web cam!) and they are growing at an incredible rate.  Any guesses on who their dad was?

These puppies are almost ready to be adopted – submit your adoption application here. :)  And without further ado, here are the Rescue Ranger puppies:

Monte, the ham:

Chip, the introvert:

Gidget, the precious (and only girl!):

Zip, the cuddler:

And finally Dale, the mischief-maker.  I have met these puppies 3 times and he is the trickiest to photograph!  He picked up my little broom and carried it around for me:

He’s a trouble maker!!

There are many more animals that Jess and I met and photographed that day – check out Ruff Start Rescue and Secondhand Hounds to meet them!

Adoptable Dogs | Minneapolis Pet Photographer

Happy Monday!  Here are a few adorable faces I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing last week.  These pups are all looking for their forever homes with Secondhand Hounds – all of these dogs (and many more) can be found here or you can click on their names below to go straight to their page.

First up is Frieda – she’s an absolutely adorable Boxer x Pit Bull puppy with an excellent start on her training.  She was filled with love and enthusiasm for her photoshoot and was eager to show off her excellent “sit” and striking markings.

Fritz and Snickers are senior Shih Tzus who are best friends and would love to be adopted as a pair!

Jack is a lovely Pit Bull – we had so much fun playing ball together!  He is a very happy, enthusiastic dog.

And Bucky.  Oh, Bucky… you are definitely my type.  He’s a young Westie mix (with huge ears and a long body) with an enormous personality.

He has the same red stripe down his back as my Scottie Henry – we had to get a group picture of this pair.  They are concentrating SO hard in the image below – it’s hard to keep still next to a new friend!  After photos, Bucky and my two dogs had a blast playing together… so fun!

That’s it for now!  I’m looking forward to meeting some more adoptable dogs later this week – make sure to check back to “meet” them!
