Secondhand Hounds 2013 Calendar | Minneapolis Pet Photographer

I was so excited when local rescue Secondhand Hounds asked me if I would photograph their 2013 calendar. We brainstormed back and forth on different ideas and themes… in the back of my mind I thought, “Wouldn’t it be neat to photograph each month in a different spot around Minneapolis-St. Paul?” I hesitated, thinking it would be *really* tricky, if not impossible for a number of reasons. The idea kept nagging me, so I suggested it, and we immediately decided on it. It was a lot of time, love, treats, and puppy kisses, but I think it was definitely worth it! I am beyond excited to see the final product, which was expertly designed by amazing local designer Maker of Rad.

Lovely Labs | St. Paul Pet Photography

As promised, here is the wonderful trio of labradors! If you missed it, their feline siblings were featured yesterday. I forgot to mention that we did this session as a Christmas surprise for their dad – don’t worry, I had permission to post these images. 🙂

This is Emma Mae. I have to admit I was immediately attracted to her because she reminded me so much of the special dog I had growing up. She has the same expressive eyes and wise look to her as my Sandy did – I couldn’t stop photographing her!

Seriously, could she be ANY sweeter?

Ben is the puppy of the bunch! At a little over a year old, he’s a major goofball and very athletic.

And Mr. Miller. I’m a sucker for a big, black dog with a gray muzzle – so handsome!

Once we moved outside, Ben set to work showing off his fantastic fetch skills.

“Throw the ball!”

“PLEASE throw the ball!!!”

Even though Emma Mae is in her double digits and has arthritis, she perked up immediately watching Ben play fetch. I believe she was playing in spirit. 🙂

Emma and Miller are so special to their mom and have been with her for a long time – we had to make sure to get some images to capture their remarkable relationship.

Good puppies!! Thank you again to Ben, Emma Mae, Miller, Blueberry, Spot, Georgia, Lucy Lu, Francesca, and of course their mom for an extra special session! I can’t wait for you to see your whole gallery.

Cashmere | St. Paul Pet Photographer

Why does it seem that the smallest dogs always have the biggest personalities? Cashmere is a Pomeranian who lives in downtown St. Paul and struts around the city like he owns the place. 🙂 His mom decided a photo session was the perfect way to celebrate his recent birthday – we enjoyed spending sometime indoors and the went exploring around his favorite spots outside, as well.

I love photo on the right – what’s so funny, Cashmere?

It wasn’t until after the session that I realized what the frame on the table said – “A friend is someone who […] accepts you today just the way you are.” How perfect! 🙂

The autumn leaves outside went perfectly with Cashmere’s coat.

Good boy, Cashmere! I hope you had a wonderful birthday and your mom loves your images!

Hazel | Twin Cities Dog Photographer

This spring, I attended and photographed the first annual No-Kill Walk for the Animals and also gave away a free session at my booth. Hazel’s mom, Katie, was the lucky winner and we recently had our session just outside of her apartment building in a beautiful part of St. Paul. Katie found Hazel on Petfinder.com and knew she was the one to adopt. She is a Cocker Spaniel x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and has a coat just like a Golden Retriever. Hazel is definitely one of the sweetest (and best-behaved) pups I have ever photographed!

It was a little breezy when we first started our session and Hazel used the wind to her advantage — she worked it with those ears!

Next up, we headed to the tennis courts — Hazel’s favorite spot. She is a tennis ball junkie (just like my dog Ajax) and will offer up all kinds of tricks in exchange for a throw.
