Mini Session Photos! | Minneapolis Pet Photographer

All I can say is “wow!”  We had a fantastic turnout for the mini sessions at Canine Crossing last weekend – I had such a wonderful time meeting so many new pets and their people (and I got so many puppy kisses!).  We had a perfect little corner in the store for taking pictures and all the dogs did an amazing job for the camera – see for yourself!  I was warned by several owners that their dogs were camera shy or would be nervous in this environment, but with calm energy and positive reinforcement, we brought out the best in everyone! 🙂

While I typically photograph pets in their own environment using natural light, I love the flexibility of my studio set-up – beautiful images can be created anywhere, regardless of weather or time of day! 🙂  On a side note, Timber (below) is a client of Dr. Stacy, whose engagement pictures can be seen here and whose wedding I’ll be photographing next fall!  Timber’s hind quarters used to be paralyzed, but thanks to Dr. Stacy’s expertise he is mobile!  We did have him into a sit on the backdrop, though, since it’s a little slippery.  Yay Timber and Dr. Stacy!

Chip (in the two images above) and Honey (below) are looking for their forever homes with Ruff Start Rescue – check them out!  Chip is a lovable, bouncy young lad and Honey is so sweet she melts your heart!!

Meet Henry! | Minneapolis Pet Photography

I first laid eyes on this little guy on Facebook — his foster mom from Homeward Bound Rescue had posted a picture of him and he was irresistible.  We met him just a couple days later at “Yappy Hour” at Pairings Food & Wine Market in Minnetonka and we knew he was coming home with us.  He remained nameless for a few days until we settled on “Henry” – a name meaning “ruler of the house” in an early form of German.  Perfect!  In case you are wondering, he is a 3-ish month-old Scottish terrier.

Since the weather has been so crummy, I’ve been stuck taking pictures in our dark indoors since he came home.  I know he’s only a puppy for a short amount of time, so I am never without a camera nearby.   When we first met:

It’s a bit eerie how similar Ajax and Henry are in their mannerisms.  Henry prefers playing in the same exact spot as Ajax… it must be the shared Scottish ancestry.

Goodbye, Tucker | Minneapolis Dog Photographer

Many of you probably remember Tucker, the beloved boxer who won the contest I hosted a little while ago.  I just learned that Tucker lost his battle with cancer, yesterday.  It’s incredibly sad his life was so short, but he was a lucky dog to have been rescued and loved by such a sweet, compassionate family.

I am so thankful I had the chance to meet and photograph you, Tucker — you were truly a good boy.

Tucker the Boxer | Minneapolis Pet Photography

As many of you are probably aware, I recently held a contest to give away a pet photography session to a deserving pet.  Here’s the winner–Tucker!  I do the majority of my sessions in clients’ homes, but Tucker’s family made the trek all the way from Two Harbors, Minnesota for his session in Minneapolis!

Here is Tucker’s contest entry, in case you didn’t see it:

“Hi! My name is Tucker and I am a white Boxer. For the first part of my life I was stuck in a bad situation and an unsafe house, but one day I got lucky and my real forever family came along and took me home with them. I am four years old and loving life! My favorite thing to do is go to the lake cabin and run! I might have some bad habits, like counter surfing, but heck who can resist a tasty sandwich just waiting to be eaten inches from their nose? Definitely not me. Luckily my family loves me and all my flaws 🙂 Unfortunately last Thanksgiving my family found out that I have cancer. The outlook is not good. What my family would like best is a great picture to keep with them when my time comes and I would very much like to give that to them! Just look at my smiling face and try to tell me no ;)”

Interesting fact: Tucker was actually entered into the contest by his “cousin” (his owners’ niece) who is a volunteer for Ruff Start Rescue!

Modeling is very hard work–I make sure to take plenty of time for water and play breaks.

Tucker was full of great facial expressions (but he spent most of the time smiling).

These last two images were suggested by Tucker’s mom–I think one of these would look amazing as a canvas above a sofa or fireplace!
