Katie & Nate | Minneapolis Wedding Photographer

Where to begin?  Katie and I have been close friends since junior high school – we played violin together in orchestra starting in 7th grade and the rest is history!  We were partners in crime in high school – we had many classes together, carpooled, watched Jeopardy! after school while doing homework… together we survived both AP Chemistry and Physics!  Katie went on to become a chemical engineer and met Nate in college at the University of Minnesota.  I first met Nate at my own wedding four years ago and he won me over from the start – I am SO happy for these two!!  They complement each other perfectly and I can never stop laughing when I’m around them.  Even on their wedding day, they were relaxed, down to earth, and full of joy and laughter all day long.  They are also both huge dog lovers – theirs pups Biscuit and Franklin played a big role in their summer engagement session.

It was such an honor to photograph their big day – it couldn’t have been more perfect for them and their amazing family and friends.  On to the images!

Katie’s dad seeing her for the first time:

Their ceremony was at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud.  Katie and Nate’s first look:

Not only are they a stunning couple, but they are some of the most intelligent people I know!

Katie’s adorable nephews were the ring bearers – Sam was pretty pumped because he got a penny from his aunt!

Their reception was at the Crown Room in Rogers.

Katie and Nate made apple butter for every guest for favors!  And each table had a delicious cake on it (I love cake).

The toasts were all very touching and absolutely hilarious.  Both sides of the family have pretty wicked senses of humor.

There was even a sing-along!

Congratulations from the bottom of my heart to Katie and Nate!  I am so, SO happy for you two!

DJ & Katie | Engagement Session

DJ and Katie are two Californians living in Minnesota.  DJ moved here first for graduate school and later convinced Katie to join him, but on one condition… she never has to pick up a snow shovel. :)

There was hefty debate whether they wanted their session during the fall season or have a snowy winter session.  They opted for the latter and we scheduled their engagement session to take place right before Christmas.  Minnesota had different plans for us, but I think we were all appreciative of the warm, sunny day we had!

We began the session in their Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood.  I loved both their adorable outfits and even more adorable smiles. :)

I used to live right by this apartment building and I always wanted to photograph it… I finally got my chance!

We then headed to the ever-popular Mill City area.  Whenever I shoot at frequently-photographed locations I always try extra hard to see things in a different way.  Unfortunately for DJ and Katie, this meant hiking up a big hill; despite the sun, it was a little chilly up there!  Totally worth it though – I love the blue sky and wisps of clouds.

Thank you so much DJ and Katie – congratulations on your upcoming wedding!!

Five Felines | St. Paul Pet Photographer

I traveled to St. Paul earlier this week for a plus-sized session – 5 cats and 3 labs!  It was so much fun for me to have this many wonderful animals to photograph and an amazing home as the location.  I decided to break up their session into two different blog posts, beginning by featuring all the kitties.  Stay tuned for the dogs!

As soon as I came in the door, I was immediately greeted by two labs and Blueberry the cat – so named because he is grayish-blue and round. :)

All of the cats were so very friendly, especially Georgia!  She was incredibly sweet and very willing to pose for the camera.

The black and white Lucy Lu is Georgia’s daughter – the most playful of the bunch.

She had a hard time resisting the stuffed-fish-on-a-bungee toy:

Francesca (or Frankie for short) was the most talkative – we had a lengthy conversation.

And Spot!  He may have been the trickiest kitty to photograph, because all he wanted to do was snuggle (which, admittedly, was lovely).  And to answer yesterday’s trivia question from my photography Facebook page, Spot is a Pixie Bob.  I actually met the breed once before about 5 years ago and the tufted ears, fluffy feet, and short tail stuck with me.

While I was working with the other kitties, Blueberry found a photogenic spot on the desk – he was keeping an eye on things.

What a wonderful group of cats – each with their own personalities and beautiful appearance.  Next up are three lovely labs – two seniors and a bouncy young’un.
